Novel Fibroblast Activation Protein Inhibitor-Based Targeted Theranostics for Radioiodine-Refractory Differentiated Thyroid Cancer Patients: A Pilot …
2021
Background: This exploratory study was to assess clinical and safety data with a novel fibroblast activation protein inhibitor-based targeted theranostics as a salvage treatment option in radioiodi...
Salvage treatment with ganciclovir in a splenectomized, polytransfused patient affected by systemic inflammatory response syndrome
2014
A 23-year-old man was admitted to hospital with a 12-day history of daily fever. A clinical history revealed that 10 months previously, the patient had been splenectomized and polytransfused for a severe blunt trauma. On admission, laboratory data revealed significant leukocytosis (33,230/ul). The patient's general clinical conditions rapidly worsened into a severe systemic inflammatory response syndrome in four days. After 10 days of broad-spectrum antibiotic treatment, the temperature curve was unmodified and severe leukocytosis persisted (44,300 ul) with absolute lymphocytosis. Laboratory tests ruled out hematological diseases, pneumonia, abscesses and endocarditis. In the light of IgM …
Semi-ResMass Study: Residual masses after salvage chemotherapy in men with pure seminoma—A multicenter retrospective analysis.
2020
420 Background: Only scarce data exist on the management of residual masses in men who have received two lines of chemotherapy for advanced seminoma. Due to the lack of data, the role of PET scanning, surgery and other additional treatments is controversial in these men. Methods: Data from men with pure seminoma and residual masses after salvage chemotherapy were retrospectively collected from 10 high-volume centers in 3 European countries. We analyzed the clinical management of residual masses (imaging, surgery, pathological data, and additional treatment modalities) and long-term outcomes. Residual mass was defined as a lesion of ≥1 cm after two lines of platin-based chemotherapy. Result…
How to find the Ariadne's thread in the labyrinth of salvage treatment options for metastatic colorectal cancer?
2014
Abstract: Since a chance for cure was found out in metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) patients undergoing a resection of liver and lung metastases, high tumor shrinkage by chemotherapy regimens and their combination with targeted agents have been addressed in potentially resectable mCRC. However, most mCRC patients cannot reach this opportunity because of tumor burden or metastatic sites. For these patients a salvage systemic therapy could be offered to prolong survival. To date, a huge number of clinical trials provided some evidences for the achievement of this goal. A lot of chemotherapeutic regimens in combination with biological therapies are now available. We tried to propose a simpl…
ERGO: A pilot study of ketogenic diet in recurrent glioblastoma
2014
Limiting dietary carbohydrates inhibits glioma growth in preclinical models. Therefore, the ERGO trial (NCT00575146) examined feasibility of a ketogenic diet in 20 patients with recurrent glioblastoma. Patients were put on a low-carbohydrate, ketogenic diet containing plant oils. Feasibility was the primary endpoint, secondary endpoints included the percentage of patients reaching urinary ketosis, progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival. The effects of a ketogenic diet alone or in combination with bevacizumab was also explored in an orthotopic U87MG glioblastoma model in nude mice. Three patients (15%) discontinued the diet for poor tolerability. No serious adverse events attri…
Vinorelbine and 5-fluorouracil bolus and/or continuous venous infusion plus levofolinic acid as second-line chemotherapy for metastatic breast cancer…
2006
Background: This retrospective study evaluated the activity and toxicity profile of a regimen of vinorelbine and 5-fluorouracil with levofolinic acid, given to a large series of patients with recurrent or refractory metastatic breast cancer after first-line chemotherapy. Patients and Methods: Overall, 286 evaluable patients were included in the analysis. Two chemotherapy schedules were reviewed: a) the bolus regimen consisted of levofolinic acid 100 mg/m(2) and 5-fluorouracil 375 mg/m(2) both administered i.v. on days 1,2 and 3, plus vinorelbine 25 mg/m(2) i.v. bolus on days I and 8 every 3 weeks; b) the infusional regimen of levofolinic acid 100 mg/m(2) given as a 2-hour infusion, followed…
